Client:  Morrisons

Hydrogeo was commissioned to progress the Remediation Works Verification role at the former Royal Mail Depot, Watford as construction of the new Morrisons superstore commenced.

Remediation Works Verification

The development site historically encompassed Watford Royal Mail Depot with offices, mail sorting warehouses, a haulage logistics yard with associated vehicle refuelling station, HGV wash, maintenance sheds to serve the fleet of commercial vans and Heavy Good Vehicles.

Remediation works at the site necessitated the break out and removal of three former underground fuel storage tanks, fuel pumps, fuel lines and surrounding contaminated soils. The project also involved the excavation and removal of the former heavy goods vehicle wash along with site surface water drainage system, interceptors, surrounding impacted soils and groundwater.

Hydrogeo were onsite to verify remediation works and independently collect representative soils samples following removal of key structures. The team liaised with and updated the regulatory authorities throughout progression of the development. Following completion of site based works Hydrogeo formulated a remediation works verification report, this was issued to and signed off by the Local Authority in line with planning conditions assigned to the site development. The store was completed and opened for business in November 2013.

“The Hydrogeo team understood the complexities of the project and provided clear pragmatic support from the very outset of the development. Furthermore Hydrogeo’s project manager, Mike Willis, communicated professionally throughout and delivered a concise remediation works, verification report that met the objectives of the project team and regulatory authorities.”  – Norrie Ross, Director at Smith Design Associates.
