Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club

Client: Pyle & Kenfig – Championship Golf Course

Hydrogeo were commissioned by Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club to assess the feasibility of developing an additional groundwater abstraction borehole, aimed at increasing water supply to support fairway irrigation across the championship course.

Hydrogeo were appointed by Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club to support a major upgrade of the existing site irrigation system. The new system will include irrigation of tee boxes, greens and in addition will include fairway irrigation, which is becoming increasingly crucial in the UK in order to maintain turf health, playability and colour during hotter drier summers.

An additional groundwater abstraction borehole was required in order to provide the increased volumes of groundwater required for fairway irrigation across the Golf Clubs Championship Course.

The team at Hydrogeo worked with P&K in determining a borehole location and progressing :

  • Water Features Survey
  • Application for a Groundwater Investigation Consent (GIC)
  • Monitoring during drilling works
  • Monitoring during full pump test monitoring
  • Detailed analysis and presentation of pump results
  • A Hydrogeological Impact Assessment
  • Full abstraction licence application (> 20m³ per day)
  • Liaison with Natural Resources Wales (NRW), drilling subcontractors and project team throughout the project.

NRW required the monitoring of a number of on-site ponds and the nearby Kenfig Pool a SSSI and Nature Reserve over the course of the pumping tests at both the existing and new borehole via electronic pressure transducer.

Following successful establishment. test pumping and reporting Hydrogeo are currently assisting the Golf Club in completing a new abstraction licence which will allow the green keeping team to abstract sufficient groundwater to irrigate the golf course throughout the year

Client Feedback:

We worked with Hydrogeo Ltd on a groundwater borehole project at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club and were very impressed with their service.

Their team provided expert guidance throughout, from borehole siting and regulatory applications to pumping tests and detailed analysis. They managed liaison with Natural Resources Wales efficiently and ensured all environmental monitoring, including work near Kenfig Pool, was carried out to a high standard.

Professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with—we would highly recommend Hydrogeo.
