Windmill Parc – SAB Detailed Drainage Design

Hydrogeo obtained SAB approval for the phased redevelopment of Windmill Parc facilitating subsequent construction of B1/B2/B8 units.

A central detention basin was designed to manage the surface water flows from the development, providing the storage requirements for a 1 in 100 year rainfall event. The basin design incorporated a combined discharge to ground with flows also regulated via a flow control chamber to a surface watercourse. The combined discharge provided resilience compared to conventional drainage systems, and follows the SuDS discharge destination hierarchy which prioritises infiltration wherever possible.

A bioretention feature located upstream of the basin provided good water quality treatment against suspended solids, metals and hydrocarbons in line with the CIRIA SuDS Manual. The addition of the bioretention feature provided amenity and biodiversity benefits for the site.

Phased redevelopment of Windmill Parc has transformed a previously dormant brownfield site into a thriving industrial centre.
